The Leading Hull Logistics Company Recruits New Staff, Expands Product Range and Announces Plans for the Future.
Hull, 23 November 2011 – CJE Logistics announced today that they would be offering customers specialist Hiab crane mounted vehicle transport designed to save costs and increase throughput for companies that need to transport large bulky items. The move is in addition to its already successful pallet, forklift mounted and warehousing product range.
The Hiab service is designed for clients who need haulage for large and heavy loads that require the use of a crane for offloading, such as cabins, containers, modular buildings, plant and machinery etc. The lifting capability is up to 11 tonnes, and a Hiab mounted vehicle effectively removes the need for a crane on-site which saves time and money. The fleet has a double drive capability that makes it ideal for tough conditions such as uneven ground present on construction sites, as well as being more hardy than a traditional crane to environmental conditions such as wind. With the Hiab solution, lost days due to undeliverable consignments are now a thing of the past. Specialised training is required to operate a crane, and CJE has also invested in two new members of staff, as well as the recruitment of an industry expert in specialised and abnormal loads.
CJE Logistics, which was founded over 20 years ago by the then local entrepreneur Nick Carter, is already well known in the UK as a leading provider of pallet haulage and warehousing to leading local and national businesses such as The Walker Group, Needlers, Livwell and Crestwood. The decision to expand their offerings stems from a drive by the company to add value to its product range and as a response to an increased general demand for more specialised logistics from its existing customer base.
New CJE staff members Martyn Ward and Pete Young have also undergone extensive training, passing the ALLMI Operator exam with flying colours. ALLMI (Association of Lorry Loader Manufacturers and Importers) is the UK’s official body for lorry loader safety and training, who also play an important part in developing legislation. This official qualification was complimented by an additional in-house training programme developed by Industry Expert and CJE’s newly recruited Specialist Transport Advisor Pat Spamer, who has worked with Hiab mounted vehicles for over 10 years and has been in the logistics industry for over 40. Pat told us: “At CJE we pride ourselves in going the extra mile, and that is why Nick asked me to develop this additional training programme so that we can ensure that the service is of a high standard, offering a safe and legal customer experience that also meets ALLMI standards.”
Managing Director Nick Carter said: “I’m delighted to welcome the new team on-board and am excited by this new offering, which is already going down very well with some of our established customers who are pleased to be able to come to use for this service. As a well-established family owned business we always strive to remain dynamic and the addition of Hiab transportation is a complement to our existing offerings. It means we can now offer our customers an additional and highly specialised service at the usual high standards they expect from CJE.”
Mr Carter also said he would be announcing more plans in the near future, as the company sets its sights on becoming even more of a leading player in the local area for pallet distribution, specialised transportation loads and warehousing. A passion for local business growth, and a commitment to helping young start-ups in the region means many positive projects that are on the horizon will come to fruition in the next quarter.

Going green puts expanding city logistics company firmly on the road to success

Wednesday, September 15, 2010, 08:00
A rapidly-expanding logistics firm has proved it is in it for the long haul after introducing a raft of innovative measures, helping it to maintain growth throughout the downturn.
The haulage industry may have experienced a rough ride over the past 18 months but in the past year CJE Logistics, at St John's Business Park in St John's Grove, has boosted its vehicle fleet by 40 per cent.
The Hull-based firm has also opened a new depot in Wakefield, west Yorkshire; beefed up its management structure; and gained ISO 14001 environmental accreditation,
CJE Logistics now has a turnover exceeding £2 million a year.
For founder Nick Carter, who more than 20 years ago bought a clapped-out van and restored it as the basis of a would-be pan-European express courier service, the past two decades have been something of a journey.
He said: "I didn't really think back then about where I would be in 20-odd years time.
"To be honest, my number one priority then was survival."
Today the firm has twenty employees and provides international freight handling for a long list of clients.
However it is CJE's green credentials that are helping it to become one of the main players in the region's logistics offering.
The majority of its 14-vehicle fleet have been selected for minimum environmental impact and maximum cost-effectiveness and are geared to guaranteed next day and two-to-three day deliveries throughout the UK.
Night-time deliveries inside the M25 and its 'greenload' service also feature strongly in its business.
Greenloading enables customers to book otherwise empty load space, advertised on the CJE website – a facility helping cut costs and reducing the number of semi-empty vans and lorries on Britain's roads.
It also operates an 'eco-drive' service. "With that we will, when visiting customers' premises, collect their waste cardboard and plastic wrapping," added Mr Carter.
"That has two environmental benefits.
"On one hand it has potential to reduce the number of recycling vehicle journeys and on the other, in its first year of operation, we diverted more than 55 tonnes from landfill to recycling."
A sea change in the company's ability to deliver came in 2004 when it joined Pallex.
Effectively an industry co-operative arrangement, Pallex involves independent hauliers working together through a distribution hub network to provide 'seamless' nation-wide services.
Cutting costs, vehicle movements and staff time it enables participants to provide clients with additional, reliable and effective services for palletised consignments.
CJE currently has around 10 per cent of the Hull area's palletised business, and Mr Carter is part of the Pallex steering group.
The firm is gearing up for further recognition after being announced a contender for the Ernst & Young-sponsored Business of the Year Award, which is part of the Mail News and Media Business Awards.

An eco-friendly member of the UK’s leading palletised freight operator has been recognised for its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

Pall-Ex member CJ Express has been awarded the ISO:14001 environmental management standard as a result of its efforts to use greener technologies.
CEO of Pall-Ex Hilary Devey recently presented the ISO certificate to the Hull-based distribution business at Hull UniversityBusiness School.
Established in 1985, CJ Express operates a 18-vehicle fleet, delivering to a growing customer base throughout the UK and central Europe as a member of Pall-Ex’s network.
CJ Express is signed up to Pall-Ex’s Eco Drive initiative – an integrated environmental solution that enables businesses to move towards sending zero waste to landfill.
Pall-Ex devised and implemented the recycling take-back service that enables businesses to remove thousands of tones of recyclable material from its customers’ waste streams.
Since starting the scheme in May 2009, CJ Express has been able to divert 55 tonnes of plastic and cardboard waste from landfill into re-cycling schemes.
Since its beginnings as a one-van operation, the company reported sales of £2.1m to the year-end April 2009 and continues to be fuelled by a commitment to excellence.
Nick Carter, managing director of CJ Express, said: “Achieving the ISO standard is a fantastic testament to the effort of the team and the support from Pall-Ex.
“Our key objectives are to prevent pollution, ensure compliance with statutory environmental legislation, ensure efficient energy usage across all operations and promote a culture where employees and customers contribute to the implementation of the policy and continuous improvement.”

Night-Time Deliveries Launched

A city haulier is introducing a night-time delivery service to businesses and individuals.
Cj Express Ltd (CJE) in St John's Grove, east Hull, will offer the service from 6pm to midnight as part of
a deal with the leading palletised freight distribution network Pall-Ex.
According to CJE, the service is particularly suited to deliveries to premises located in areas where
access is restricted during the day.
It is also beneficial for home deliveries, as times can be arranged to suit residents.
Initially, the night service will only be available inside the M25 corridor, but plans are in place to roll it out
to other cities across the UK.
Guy Drury, business development manager of CJE, said: "Research of our customer base suggested
people wanted an alternative to more traditional delivery times.
"The market is extremely competitive at the moment, so we are constantly developing unique selling
points, and, whenever we spot an opportunity in the service offering, we modify traditional strategies to
offer an even better service to customers."
